In production facilities for large power transformers with weights up to 1000 tons air cushion
technology got common due to it’s mobility, flexibility, economy and high floor space efficiency.
Air cushion technology is used in the following fields of large transformer
Core- and coil assembly, including coil drying in the drying oven (150°C max)
Transport of cores and coils in active part assembly
Active part assembly station, air cushion driven assembly platforms, transport of the
active parts to the drying oven.
Assembly of the big transformer at the test field
Test field supplied with air cushion driven test transformers and voltage generators
With help of this pallet transporters the movement of transformers by crane, that took a lot
of effort, got reduced to a rock bottom expense of time and energy.
The most reason for the use of Air-Cushion technology in transformer production is the
highly economical effect. In transformer industry there are, beneath the well good known effects
like omnimobility, less high, less floor pressure and so on, three main effects
At new building and new investment you can reduce the investment of the new
building. To build a 500 t transformer you need only a 250 to crane. The investment
will be reduced to a half of the normal one. (please see table on next page)
At renovation of old buildings the use of Air-Cushion enables to produce transformer
with double weight with the existing crane equipment, because the crane
capacity only depends on the weight of the active part.
The rate of floor space utilization will be doubled. So you can produce the double
amount of transformers at the same available space.
