Transformer Cutting

Soenen is one of the market leaders for silicon steel cut-to-length lines for transformer lamination. The sequence of cutting, notching and stacking is a complicated production process due to the high speeds, the start-stop movements, and the use of very delicate material (silicon metal sheets 0.18 – 0.5 mm thick). But the outcome is always the same – laminations impeccably cut with no sheet damage and no burr.

Special Cutting

The demand for cutting lines in the service industry is steadily growing. Especially the automotive sector has an important need for precut trapezium-shaped plates. Our production lines are equipped with electric swivel shears, which cut the steel sheets into precut plates. We manufacture lines that can handle 120 meters of coil per minute and accurately measure to 0.1 mm. Soenen has built cutting lines for Corus (now Tata Steel) and ArcelorMittal.

Slitting

For the transformer industry, Soenen also builds slitting lines. A Soenen slitting line processes 200 m silicon steel per minute with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. Our lines can slit coils that vary between 300 and 1250 mm. The strips are recoiled with high accuracy and the right tension.

E-Stacking

In order to make the manufacturing of a transformer more efficient, flexible and accurate we developed two different E-stacking concepts that will revolutionize the transformer market: the Soenen in- and off-line E-stacking systems. Both systems are fully automatic and overall faster.

Our in-line system is a high precision placing unit, positioned behind a new or existing core cutting line. Its stacking capacity is in accordance with the cutting speed of the line. The offline E-stacker is a compact stand-alone pick and place unit. Sheets are picked from irregular stacks and automatically placed in an E-shape. In order to detect out of range tolerances the gaps between the sheets are scanned.

GENTLE TRANSPORT OF FRAGILE GOODS

Smooth, vibration-free transport is essential when it comes to conveying glass packages. Air cushion technology is ideal for such applications because of the “padding” the air cushions typically provide.

Although they weigh tons, the glass panels are gently raised by the air cushion transporter and brought to float. They are then transported almost frictionlessly and with minimum energy being required.

When floor-level autoclaves are being loaded, the compact dimensions and flat design of the transporters are particularly advantageous because the space gained allows larger glass sizes to fit into the high pressure ovens.

The glass packages, which are stored on A-frames, can be picked up by the pallet transporter without having to be rearranged. There is no need for a complex and expensive rail transport system, which allows valuable production space to be saved.

To enable raised autoclaves to be loaded, the air cushion transporters are fitted with a satellite carriage that drives under the glass racks, docks and then pushes them into or out of the autoclaves.

Again, a conventional rail system can be dispensed with. The flexible air cushion-based solution allows a second or third autoclave to be integrated or the layout to be modified at any time.

AIR CUSHION TECHNOLOGY PERMITS HIGH DEGREE OF AUTOMATION

Production processes in the chemical industry are characterised by an ever increasing degree of automation. At the same time, though, production must be as flexible as possible if the rising demands of customers in terms of product diversity and constant innovation are to be met.

Air cushion technology allows these requirements to be realised at minimal investment cost. DELU has developed manual, semi and fully automated transport systems for this industry that allow containers and mixers weighing up to 32 tons to be moved.

Air cushion transporters used in areas at risk of explosion are designed to be explosion protected.

A feature of the fully automated AGVs (automatic guided vehicles) of DELU is that their air cushion running gears enable even heavy loads to be carried. The low ground friction means that very little energy is required. Because the loads are distributed so widely, the floors suffer little damage and transport is smooth and free of vibration.

This technology also means that the external dimensions of the driverless transport vehicles do not have to be so large in order to bear the load (smaller than the floor space of the load). This ensures optimum utilisation of the production space alongside maximum flexibility.

The vehicles are supplied with compressed air by automatic air rails. Communication with the process control system is handled by wireless data transmitters and cell computers.

With help of this pallet transporters the movement of transformers by crane, that took a lot
of effort, got reduced to a rock bottom expense of time and energy.
The most reason for the use of Air-Cushion technology in transformer production is the
highly economical effect. In transformer industry there are, beneath the well good known effects
like omnimobility, less high, less floor pressure and so on, three main effects
 At new building and new investment you can reduce the investment of the new
building. To build a 500 t transformer you need only a 250 to crane. The investment
will be reduced to a half of the normal one. (please see table on next page)
 At renovation of old buildings the use of Air-Cushion enables to produce transformer
with double weight with the existing crane equipment, because the crane
capacity only depends on the weight of the active part.
 The rate of floor space utilization will be doubled. So you can produce the double

DELU HAS SET NEW STANDARDS IN THE INDOOR TRANSPORT OF HEAVY TRANSFORMERS.

Large power transformers can weigh as much as 700 tons or more. To move these leviathans within a factory, huge, bulky crane or rail systems are required. These challenges make the advantages of an air cushion system particularly apparent.

DELU supplies low-cost pallet transport systems that allow transformers weighing up to 1,000 tons to be positioned to millimetre precision and safely manoeuvred through narrow passageways by a single operator.

Such a system can comprise several (small) transports that are combined and arranged in different ways (parallel, inline) according to the size and distribution of the load. This enables the whole product spectrum of 10 to 1,000 tons to be covered easily and economically.

Complete transformers or components are placed on steel pallets, which means they can be picked up by the air cushion transporter at any time and conveyed to the next assembly station, the testing lab or the VPD. The hall crane is only required for the loading and unloading of the pallets. It is usually possible to dispense with inflexible rail systems entirely.

THE LOAD CAPACITY OF AIR CUSHION TRANSPORTERS IS ALMOST LIMITLESS

The load capacity of the air cushion elements results from the product of their surface area and the operating pressure (F = A * p). Since the air cushions are charged at a pressure of up to 4 bar, an air cushion 1 metre in diameter, for instance, can carry a load of about 25 tons.

Air cushion running gears have a modular structure, i.e. any number of elements can be connected together. This means there is almost no limit on the load capacity.

The use of transport pallets allows any number of goods and products to be made mobile and conveyed, cycled or positioned by just one single pallet transporter.

In addition, the individual air cushion transporters can be combined into a group of 2, 3 4 or more units, enabling the load capacity to be easily increased and adapted to the particular load.
